It’s late in the game, you’re down by a run with a man on, and your best hitter is up. What do you do… Send the runner? Hit and Run? Swing for the fences? The decision is yours in MatchUp™ Baseball.Introducing MatchUp™ Baseball:MatchUp™ Baseball is a baseball simulation game that is played on an android-powered mobile device. The Spring Training Edition of the game is played against the computer, but the Regular Season Edition (coming soon!) is played against a live opponent – in real time. MatchUp™ Baseball features 24-man rosters and pre-configured lineups from both leagues for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.A typical nine inning game takes about 15 to 20 minutes to play. Along the way, YOU MANAGE YOUR FAVORITE TEAM: You decide when you want your slugger to swing away against the opponent’s pitcher, when you want your slap hitter to bunt runners over, and when you want your speedster to steal a base. You also decide when to go for the double play and whether or not to try to throw out advancing base-runners.It’s all in your hands: YOU select your opponent, YOU set your team’s pitching rotation and lineup, YOU control your team’s in-game strategy moves, and YOU ultimately win the game when your players come through.HOW TO PLAY MatchUp™ Baseball:The simplest description of how to play the game is four steps:1. Create your manager2. Select your team and your opponent’s team3. Select your starter and set your lineup4. Play Ball!Of course, there are some additional elements that make the game more fun. MatchUp™ Baseball relies on player ratings to determine the outcomes of each play. The ratings (in descending order) are: Elite, Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor. Higher is always better, whether it is a Defensive Rating, or a Speed Rating, or any other. Specific ratings control specific Strategy Options: Speed (SP) for Stolen Base attempts, Bat Control (BC) for Hit and Run attempts, etc.Try selecting a team and auto-selecting the lineup. When batting, simply choose “Swing Away” for every at-bat. Similarly, when pitching, simply choose “Pitch to Batter” for every at-bat. As situations arise where the Strategy Options apply, the appropriate button(s) will light up. Once in a while, try a Strategy Option: bunt for a hit, steal a base, go for the Double Play, call for an Intentional Walk, or bring in a reliever. This is the Spring Training Edition… None of these games count. So use this time to hone your chops so that you will be ready for the Regular Season Edition.MatchUp™ Baseball Strategy Play:For more “advanced” play, take advantage of the strategy options when you are at bat. When you choose to “swing away,” the opposing pitcher’s MatchUp Rating determines whether the at-bat result comes from the pitcher’s card or the batter’s card. As with all player characteristics, every pitcher has a MatchUp Rating. Depending on this rating, the pitcher has a better or worse likelihood of “controlling” the at-bat. For example, a rating of Excellent means that the pitcher’s card will determine the result of the at-bat 72 percent of the time. When facing a particularly strong pitcher, it is better for the offense to avoid the chance of the pitcher controlling the at-bat, simply because a pitcher’s card contains mostly negative results for the offense (just as a batter’s card contains mostly positive results). Hence, the STRATEGY options are available. The value of a Strategy option is that it bypasses the pitcher’s MatchUp Rating and takes the result of the at-bat from the appropriate Strategy card. In other words, all pitchers are equal when attempting a Strategy option.Additionally, all pitchers have a “Stamina” score – which indicates how much offensive success that pitcher can absorb before he gets tired and, ultimately driven to the showers. Every positive offensive result knocks a point off the pitcher, so use the Strategy options to chip away at a strong starter and get him out of the game.
